Plenty of people dogged the Vista bullet and did not have it installed on our newer computers. Instead we either opted for XP or downgraded from vista to XP. The problem now is with the introduction of Windows 7 plenty of XP users want to do a upgrade XP to Windows 7.There is a slight issue with this.Microsoft has not come out with a direct upgrade path to upgrade XP to Windows 7.
The big M is getting a little gruff out there for not providing an upgrade option for XP users.Microsoft said that because of how old XP is they can not provide a solid upgrade path between the two operating systems.I am still perplexed by this. There is one data transfer company out there that has come up with a solution to upgrade your operating system. So if this third party software vendor can do it then why not Microsoft.Even though Microsoft could not make a program to do the upgrade you can follow the link above to learn about a company that was able to make such an upgrade program.
So What Are You Going to do?
An option you do have is to wipe out the XP drive and install Windows 7. This does mean you would have to re-install your programs and make a backup of your data first. A good site to check out on backing up files and doing file transfers is this pc to pc file transfer site.
A very complicated way to do this is to first upgrade to Vista and then over to Windows 7.This would require you to buy Vista for the sole purpose of using it as an upgrade tool. So you would not only have to purchase Windows 7 but another operating system that you do not plan on using. That is why we recommend using the only software known to XP to Windows 7 upgrade.
Many of you out there will agree when I say Shenanigans. However on the bright side plenty of people are liking Windows 7. One thing you should do before doing an upgrade is to run the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser program. It’s free from Microsoft and it will let you know if all your hardware and software programs are compatible.Be prepared to have to update some of your drivers and some software programs.
