Compact Flash (CF) – Memory Card Guide

Memory storage poses to be one of the most crucial aspects of information usage in today’s age. The need for access to compact devices that can store ever-increasing needs of memory requirements at higher speeds has become almost essential. Whether it is your phone, camera, music player, movie player – there is no upper bound to the amount of memory that you require and no lower bound on the size that it should be shrunk to. For starters, the maximum limit that the CF can store is up to 64GB – more than any other product in the market today. Critics might say that the CF is larger than the MicroSD – its weight is around 10g, and its dimensions are 43×36×5mm. However, it is a small tradeoff to pay when you are getting such unbelievable memory storage – and such amazing energy efficiency. This is because the CF uses only a mere 58% of the power supplied to the hard drive and is reaching speeds which are essential for burst image capture at HD resolutions.

This card can be used in a variety of electronic devices like music systems, digital cameras and portable notebooks. For example, it is possible for an experienced photographer to maintain a high resolution due to the CF card’s ability to transform data at a high speed transfer rate. This enables the photographers to shoot high resolution graphics and video without lag. Dr. Eli Harari, CEO of SanDisk – the pioneer of CompactFlash memory cards – looks forward:

“We expect this significant acceleration in production output will further reduce our costs and provide substantial new captive capacity to meet the anticipated growth in demand from new markets such as mobile phones and MP3 players, and enable us to better address geographies where we believe we have attractive opportunities to expand our market presence.”

This is true too – as we can already see the CompactFlash being used on a wide variety of high-end platforms – such as high-resolution cameras, portable notebooks, portable music players, and the lot.  We should see the compact Flash memory card dominate for high end digital devices for the forseeable future.
